First off, thank you reviewers for your thoughts on this book, it's what lead me into buying this book. This book makes studying for my CCNA that much more enjoyable. This book helps to embolden my confidence towards the world of networking and specifically with Cisco. While watching study videos, reading my main ccna study book, and this, I seem to be retaining everything with confidence. I genuinely want to grasp a deep understanding with how all this works and the author helps to put you in an interactive mindset. He knows the questions your thinking and elaborates on issues expressed in real life network scenarios.Whether I'm labbing with his examples, or simply leaning back in my chair for a good read, this is the book I look forward to reading. I never would of thought picking it up would be this enjoyable, that helps me get through the studying grind in a totally different light.
Whether you're showing up on the job fresh from a Cisco certification with no job experience or you've been in the field for awhile this book has something to offer that you're not going to find elsewhere. In a nutshell, it is the networking book to help you get your job done. The book focuses on teaching what you need to know on the job and not just information to to pass a certification exam. It helps turn on light bulbs that you may not get when reading cisco Press books. It explains thing with simple examples and uses fun analogies. I have to say thisis the first networking book that I have read that I just didn't want to put down. (think spy thriller or mystery novel) If you are in the networking field, buy this book and read it cover to cover like I did. (or virtual cover to cover via Kindle in my case) Absolutely wonderful book!
I would very much like to leave it 5 stars, with the exception that there's no real mentiond of IGMP and multicast traffic. One of the main problems I've seen is managing multicast traffic within a small to medium sized networks. From IGMP ACLs to PIM routing etc.
Network Warrior is one of those books that every IT pro should have. I actually ordered an additional copy of this book to keep at home as when I first received it I was taking it to and from the office.I recommend it to anyone who is not only getting started in networking, but also for anyone who is an IT "jack of all trades," as it's impossible to remember all the little command nuances or the real world best practices of a technology if you don't use it every day.When I need to do something networking-related that I haven't done in a while, I usually look in this book first. For example, I know tomorrow I'm going to be setting up an old Catalyst 3550 as a multilayer switch for a project. I haven't set up an SVI in at least a year. I know I need to put a "no switchport" command in somewhere. I know I could search online for it, but then there's always Network Warrior!
This is a fantastic book to fill in the missing stuff. I particularly appreciated the T1 section. It answered a lot of questions and reinforced a lot of prior knowledge. Also, this book looks badass on a bookshelf.
This book gives so much insight. The content is so easy to read and rarely feel bored. Good strong foundation with plenty examples of troubleshooting.
I bought this book more as a reference. I am not a CCNA so some of the topics are a bit beyond me, but I'm working as a Jr Linux Engineer and this book has saved my ass on two occasions. Networking is something I'm very much interested in learning more about, and I plan on updating this review as I read more of this book.
Working in the I.T. Field as a network admin I've read plenty of books and manuals over the years dealing with networking, most were dry and not really relevant to what I work on day to day. Network Warrior fills that gap providing a mix of the authors real-world experiences with we (IT Professionals) are most likely to be working with. I would definitely recommend this book, the writing style is easy to read and holds my interest. I'll be looking for more from this author.
