For anyone who wants to understand their own depth psychology as well as humanity in general, this book is a must read. This book will require one to be psychologically ready to understand one's own mind and humanities struggle with the mind through the ages. This book is as relevant today as when written and will be relevant through time.
I have read and reread many of Carl Jung's books and he never disappoints. He packs more into one sentence than most authors are able to do in a chapter or an entire book. I would not suggest this particular book to anyone who is not familiar with Carl Jung's basic ideas. However for those who have struggled to keep pace with his marathon mind this book will reveal itself to be a jewel in the crown of his collected works. His discussion on psychic energy and synchronicity although at times abstract resonates when illuminated by its correspondence with the archetypal layers of the collective unconscious. This book along with" Psychological Types" has helped me to bring the development of personality into sharper focus.
Carl Jung lived a full rich life, filled with experiences which he examined with sincerity and bequeathed to mankind a storehouse of spiritual treasures.Lamentably, few have taken the effots to work through his studies spaning 60 years of pioneering research.More than ever in 2011, mankind should wise up and hear what this great old wise man has to say. This world faces a crisis of unprecendant proportions of decay and anihaliation.EQ's, floods, fires, droughts, disease will continue to work its way upon all mankind. Jung's studies are one way to *appease the god's anger*, so to speak.Though we know Revelation of John is comming to pass and will be fulfilled, leaving the majority of mankind in the dark as to these plagues and their purpose.Jung has always been a light in my deep darkness and am only recently, after 20 yrs of dabbling in Jung, seeing the fruits of my desire to know Jung's researches.I am reaching a point where I am able to read between the lines and make critque where needed. Jung always stated his works will await others to further advance.I want to call one passage to critque.Page 214 On The Nature of The Psyche*We must constantly bear in mind that what we mean by archetype is in itself irrepresentable, but which has effects which make visualizations of it possible...*I realize Jung is here refering to archetype as a pure identifable VISIBLE object = *IR-representable*.However the archetype is in fact representable when this psychic structure is crystalized in a given personality.Examples in history are Alexander, Plato, Socrates, (NOT Aristotle, as he was a fake and a fraud) Heraculitus (par excellent) Paul of the NT, . In modern times, a pure form of archetype would be Elvis Presely in his early career, not his later when he succumbed to drugs. Marlyn Monroe yet another.Other archetypes taking the form of The Villian can be seen in Bernie Madoff and Richard Flud of Lehman Brothers. Both are representables of The Villian Archetype. The archetype manifests in pure forms whena society is in a critical passage, such as we see on planet earth 2011.Collective mankind is splitting into basically 2 camps, camp 1 as the majority seeking the government/and or religion as its support and the other *few chosen* camp seeking God as salvation. Both are seeking a archetype that will offer salvation from this perilious death spiral.Only the God sent archetype will lead to truth, the government's archetype will appear as truth, yet is the archetype of The Deceiver, The Lie, The Propaganda. The archetype is representable and will manifest in purer more potent forms as this world epoch disintegrates. Exapmle: AS John preceded Christ, so in this day a prophetic archetype in form will precede Messiah. John's Revelation speaks of 2 prophets who will arise in Isreal and will not be accepted. This occurs just before the actual return of Messiah in a cloyd of glory.JUng also was a pure form of archetype and is representable as *The Great Doctor of Psyche*OK, now fire away, blast my comments with all your guns filled with snides and acerbity. However all thought provoking comments will receive due consideration for a response.btw this Vol 8 completes my Jung collection and is a very welcomed addition in Jung's rich strorehouse of wisdom in the psyche and her mysteries.
Excellent works of Jung about the psyche and energies. Loved the section of dream psychology.
Every paragraph of Jung is gold. He's a careful essayist with wide experience and the genius to find meaning in it.
I am sorry to give this product only 4 stars because I love and respect Jung's work very much. My only problem with this book is the way it has been printed. The ink and/or paper smells horribly, a bitter, sickening smell of chemicals that makes me nauseous and I end up with a bitter taste in my mouth after just 30 minutes of reading. I have come across such poor quality printing of books before, but I never imagined a work of this calibre would receive such treatment by the publishers. It is very sad, especially since the price was not very affordable for me.
Profound book on the unconscious. Almost 100years on since it's first publication this book is an essential read for anyone who learn about he dynamics of the psyche
I do like Carl Jung. He writes like a young man, indeed he never got old. That is what makes him so fresh even today. His name means young too. If you like him, you will love this book.
