Bonnie's book is such a great accomplishment! She fully describes the often misunderstood role and day-to-day experiences of a celebrity assistant, which most definitely translates to the world of all administrative professionals. Any individual who interacts with high-powered people - or wants to - will truly benefit from the information that Bonnie shares in this book. --Hope Rippere, former CEO Communications Manager, Hewlett-Packard Company --Hope RippereBe the Ultimate Assistant is a must-read for assistants and employers alike! Bonnie's years of experience with Olympia have served to create the ULTIMATE resource for any assistant looking to develop a successful and long-lasting relationship with an employer. An employer myself, this invaluable guide provided me with the perfect blueprint to follow in my search for a personal assistant. Bonnie clearly demonstrates the do's and dont's of a productive rapport in bite-sized and entertaining anecdotes, and in-depth personal experiences. This book finds it greatest success by debunking the myth of the employment hierarchy by spelling out the reality of every successful working relationship - teamwork. --Anonymous employer-New York, NY --AnonymousIf you are interested in becoming a professional assistant, this is a must-read. It defines all the skills you'll need to be successful, gives a historical and future look at the profession, and includes humorous anecdotes that will keep you entertained. The paradox is that it is both an instruction manual and a page turner. The author's realistic approach can inspire those who were meant to be a successful professional assistant. As a former NY personal assistant and current certified Microsoft Office Specialist Master Instructor supporting assistants, my specific interest in reading the book was to learn more about the technology challenges professional assistants face. Not only did I discover an author who has undeniable expertise, but one with a sense of purpose to help others succeed in this extremely competitive area. While many people in the business hoard information, Bonnie demonstrates a refreshing collaborative approach. --Vickie Evans CEO Redcape Company- Dallas, TX --Vickie Sokol Evans

This is truly a tell all book sharing all the trials and tribulations about working for the rich and famous. After having read it, it is clearly not for me as you essentially don't have a life of your own. Thereare virtually no boundaries and even if there are the celebs will violate your boundaries and if you objectthey will simply find another sycophant who will give up their own life. That being said it was stilla very interesting read and worth the time to see first hand through someone's eyes who lived it.The reviewer is a marriage, relationship and sexual coach and the author of the Kindle book entitled:Sex Education for Adults Secrets to Amazing Sex and Happily Ever After Too
After working with the same wonderful CEO for fourteen years, my EA role evolved into an Office Manager position partnering with many chiefs, and I wanted to ensure that my skills and perspective developed with the role. A colleague recommended The Ultimate Assistant to me and as my future dream job is to be a PA in private industry, I figured I’d be gaining insight into both worlds by reading this book.I am so glad I did! Not only did it provide the renewed perspective I needed to be the best EA I can be (still learning!), but it is full of tips and examples that I will refer to in the future. The book is well-written and the style warm and engaging, a paperback coach for a somewhat lone-wolf profession.I am now looking forward to attending Bonnie’s seminar in Seattle this autumn and already enjoy her podcasts.
I bought Ms. Low-Kramen's book after being drawn to her solid advice to assistants on LinkedIn forums. I was not disappointed. "Be The Ultimate Assistant" is a must-have guide for all celebrity assistants, but especially for those who are aspiring to the role. The book includes enjoyable, amusing and eye-opening stories that provide instructive lessons for those who work - or wish to work - for the famous, wealthy and powerful; it is those stories that make this book a page-turner. They reveal not only clear strategies in dealing with the larger-than-life employer but also contain personal accounts of how Ms. Low-Kramen came to work for Academy Award-winning actress Olympia Dukakis and her husband, actor Louis Zorich, and their warm and enduring relationship. Woven among these enlightening and delightful stories are sound strategies, techniques and resources for celebrity assistants. The book also addresses what it takes to be a celebrity assistant, how to go about landing a position and the unique challenges and hard truths of which anyone embarking on such a career should be aware. Included are tips that any assistant working for a celebrity or other high-powered employer will find helpful; but, it also addresses how to handle extreme situations like replacing a passport overnight, obtaining a police escort and delaying a commercial flight! "We...do whatever it takes to get our jobs done," says Ms. Low-Kramen in the book's introduction. She even includes guidelines for employers who wish to hire - and keep - a celebrity assistant; this is important, as the role of celebrity assistant, while it can be glamorous and exciting, is an especially rigorous and demanding one and employers need to know how to work optimally with their assistants. For this reason the book is a valuable resource for employers, as well. The one weak piece in the book is the resume example, which is outdated by 2014 standards; but that is a minor point. Overall, "Be the Ultimate Assistant" should be part of every celebrity, executive and personal assistant's library.
Ms. Kramen imparts wisdom for the person looking to be assist a celebrity in particular, but also for anyone looking to embark on the the service professional path. She speaks about the traits that help and hinder the assistant, ways to perform the job better, as well as how to land the perfect job (whether you're already in the profession or not). Even so, I believe much of what Ms. Kramen discusses can be applied to any profession - but most notably to those of us in helping careers. As a former executive assistant and newer recipient of administrative assistance, I found this book immensely helpful. In fact, I even found myself feeling wistful of my days as an assistant - for those of drawn to this work, it most certainly is a labor of love! I wish I had known about this book when I was in the field, as I suspect my career choices might have steered me in another direction! I look forward to sharing this with all of the employees and service providers in my life!I can't recommend this book highly enough!
I have recently transitioned into the role of personal assistant and was excited to come across this book in my search for professional development materials. Bonnie Low-Kramen does an excellent job blending her personal story with practical advice for people in the field. I now have a long list of ideas to try in my new role. The first one being her recommendation to discuss priorities with your employer. This will be very helpful to me in planning my day and making sure that I am spending my time in a way that my employer finds beneficial. I would definitely recommend this book to others starting out in the field.
Well written book on what an assistant is expected to do, be and become. As an Office Manager and Personal Assistant to the Principals of my company, I don't have to do some of the things Ms Low-Kramen has to. However, there are many things which are similar in our positions. We have to read the mind of our boss, know where to find anything at a moment's notice and know who to let in and who to keep out.Too many people thing an assistant is a 'secretary' who makes coffee and answers phones. Yes, we do that - and so much more. This book may help in elevating the perception of the position to where it should be. We are Managers, with a capital M. We manage everything from dry cleaning to setting up meetings to getting in new business. Thank you to Ms Low-Kramen for trying to show what we do on a day to day basis.
